“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW!
Wow is the one to aim for.”
– Milton Glaser

With over 35 years in graphic design, advertising, and marketing, I have produced graphic art and visuals for promotions, advertisements, packaging, exhibits, environmental design and other informative and instructional material through a variety of media outlets. I can creatively execute content generation, editing, and proofreading for multiple media outlets as well. I am capable of supervising creative design within business groups and directing and developing final visual images that communicate the organization’s marketing objectives to their target market audience. I’m always striving for the “WOW!”

Claire Mullen Design, LLC

As the owner and principal of CMD, my range of work varies a great deal. Here are some examples of my most current work and one dear to my heart. For 10 years, on top of everything else, my husband and I opened up a pub and pizzeria called Over the Moon Pub & Pizza. In addition to being chief cook and bottle washer, I was also the lead on all marketing materials and promotions. As our business grew, I left my Production Director position at Bird Watcher’s Digest to focus on our restaurant and bar business. At the beginning of the pandemic we were able to sell that business.

The following examples were created for interior signage and for social media.

Over the Moon with
shameless self-promotion.

If you know anything about owning a restaurant…you know you have to know a lot about a LOT! In addition of creating a name and a logo, I’ve had 10 years of posters, coupons, ads, and social media posts. It’s also a great way to plug your husband’s band.

Some birdy business.

Prior to and while operating our restaurant I was the production director for Bird Watcher’s Digest. With two bi-monthly magazines, events, and collateral material to design and produce—prioritization and organization are critical to maintaining a demanding production schedule.

The now defunct niche´ publishing company started in the living room of Bill & Elsa Thompson, reigned supreme in the birding world since 1978. It was also home to another publication, Watching Backyard Birds, which I redesigned, as well as materials for Symposiums, Reader/subscriber Rendezvous, Optic guides, and myriad circulation materials to keep those subscribers coming back in flocks.

Designing the kitchen sink, locally, regionally, and nationally.

Logos. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story starts with a logo.

Print is not dead…

Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh print? Every time something comes off the press I get a chill. Nothing like seeing your clients wishes and dreams come true (in print anyway). Working with the National Business Incubator Association I helped to develop catalogs, books for Incubator businesses, and materials for their yearly conferences.

Industrial design.

From trade show displays, to brochures, sign design, instructional materials, or ads for trade publications, the inner nerd resides.

Pet projects..

Little did we know our 2-time shelter rescue (pictured below) would ignite our desire to help out all of our furry friends. Our yearly concert has grown so large we had to change venues. Other brochures and materials for friends with local businesses.

Branding with a purpose.

Developing branding for a regional hospital that stands the test of time. Strong graphics and consistent branding across the board have kept this hospital from losing its message.

Whether designing a tabloid newspaper, a graduation announcement, a newspaper ad for a funeral home (and tv spot), or launching the branding for a new regional port authority. The “WOW”, is what I’m striving for.
